Listing Information: ACTeen - Acting for Teens was created in 1978 by Director Rita Litton, as the first on camera acting curriculum for teenagers (ages 13-15, & 16-20). ACTeen is the winner of three Backstage "Readers' Choice Awards" ("Favorite Acting Classes/Coach for Teens.") ACTeen Juniors is a separate division tailored for middle school students ages 10-12.

ACTeen develops dedicated pre-professionals into technically proficient, versatile, and marketable actors. Combining theatrical discipline with spontaneous, effective on-camera acting techniques, students learn to successfully perform in both film and theater media with skill and professionalism. ACTeen offers twelve courses covering characterization, script analysis, technique and process. Students learn to function among directors and actors with varying acting approaches, while benefiting enormously from the video playbacks ("one picture is worth a thousand words"), an important part of the on-camera acting classes. Popular electives include Theater, Improvisation, Film/TV, Musical Theater, Audition, Speech & Voice, Commercials, Voiceovers, Shakespeare, Movement, & Monologues among others.

Hundreds of ACTeen graduates have achieved successful careers in film, television, and the theater including: Jon Seda ("Chicago P.D.") Daniella Alonso ("Revolution"); Sofia Black D'Elia ("Gossip Girl");' Julia Goldani Telles ("The Affair," "Bunheads"); Katelyn Tarver ("Big Time Rush," "Secret Life of an American Teen"); Max Schneider (NBC "Crisis," Nickelodeon's "How to Rock," "Rags"), Jamie Lynn Sigler ("Guys With Kids," Meadow Soprano in HBO's "The Sopranos,"); Jordana Spiro (lead "My Boys"); Danny Masterson (Hyde "That '70s Show"); Cara Buono Emmy nominee "Mad Men", "Person of Interes"; Jordana Brewster ("Fast Five,"); Samm Levine ("Freaks and Geeks");Kimberly Williams Paisley "Nashville." Students on Broadway in "Finding Neverland," "Matilda," "Aladdin," "Book of Mormon," "Billy Eliot," "Jersey Boys," etc. Many acquired their first on camera technique at ACTeen, and their first representation through our industry showcases. ACTeen is consistently recommended by New York talent agents and managers for their clients and prospective clients. Our alumni roster includes graduates who have become successful talent agents, managers, film directors, screenwriters, and producers, as well as articulate, creative and positive adults!

Programs are offered Fall, Winter or Spring on weekday afternoons or Saturdays. Four unique Summer Academies (June, July, August and Summer Saturday) offer full or part-time programs which draw students from all over the US and overseas. Interviews are requested for school year programs and application/audition for summer terms. Students outside the NYC area may apply as a 'long distance applicant,' most easily via online video conferencing software, such as Skype. See web site for information.

ACTeen is staffed by adult professional actors & directors, many of whom also teach for prestigious university theater programs. Guest casting directors are invited for special workshops.

Various articles about ACTeen or Rita Litton, have appeared in "Seventeen," "Cosmo Girl," "The New York Times," "New York Magazine," "New York Post," "The Princeton Review," "Chicago Tribune," "Backstage," "Dramatics" magazine, "Variety," on television, and in news broadcasts. ACTeen's copyrighted curriculum is favorably mentioned in various books on acting, including praise in "How to Be a Working Actor" by Mari Lyn Henry (former Head of East Coast Casting for ABC), and "Acting For Young Actors", by Emmy-Winning director Mary Lou Belli, and Dinah Lenney.

ACTeen Juniors is a separate division for middle school actors, offering courses in on camera actining for film & TV, commercials, or theater, musical theater and improvisation--exclusively for ages 10-12. Special Summer Acting Intensives (one week) are offered Monday through Friday in late June and early August, as well as a 6-week Summer Saturday program. The summer program will offer our Juniors courses in movement, mask, speech and voice, improv, commercials, improv, radio drama, acting and audition technique and more!
