The college application process is overwhelming for any student applying, but even more overwhelming for those pursuing a musical theater or theater degree. I have come up with my top tips for students interested in auditioning for college theater programs as someone who recently finished up the audition process!

I don’t think that South Pacific or even the shows of Rogers and Hammerstein are especially dated or irrelevant.  A few years back, Fulton put on The Sound of Music to great appreciation and acclaim.  I wish they were able to capture some of that magic this time around.

Rupert’s Remarkable Request” is an awarding winning original play written by York local playwright Diane Crews. It is onstage at TAFE: Theatre Arts for Everyone from April 26th to 28th under the directions of Diane Crews. Rupert is a well-known character at TAFE, and he appears in “Rupert Meets Mrs. Tales,” which is one of the 4 touring shows the theatre offers the community. “Rupert’s Remarkable Request” is a unique show geared towards families and young readers. Rupert’s enthusiasm meeting new characters might encourage the love of reading for your family.

 Act II Playhouse has announced its latest production, “Forever Plaid”, the beloved musical by Stuart Ross. 

Senator John Fetterman has released a statement on The Mountain View Middle School in Cumberland County that canceled a planned appearance by actor and children’s book author Maulik Pancholy, which was set for May 22, 2023.

The Pulitzer Prize-winning drama SWEAT by Lynn Nottage will be presented at DreamWrights Center for Community Arts.

Their robust and exposition-heavy first act scenes reminds me of that classic physics question, “what happens when an unstoppable force meets an unmovable object?”. 

What did our critic think of THE PLAY THAT GOES WRONG at The Belmont Theatre?

The actors have wonderful interactions with one another and with the audience, and their comedy chops are highlighted well. The actors have good voices and there are moments of nice harmonies and solo work. Unfortunately, the show is disappointing due to some major pitch problems that even impacted the melody line at times.

The Ephrata Performing Art Center (EPAC)'s production of Tennessee Williams’ classic, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof is now running through April 27th. Check out photos from the production here!

These young actors perform with an enthusiasm and dedication that will have audiences laughing, clapping, and singing along. Any time young actors take the stage with passion and joy, the audience cannot help but feel it, too

The Mountain View Middle School in Cumberland County has officially canceled a planned appearance by actor and children’s book author Maulik Pancholy. The board cited concerns relating to Pancholy's activism and personal lifestyle, which were deemed potentially at odds with the district's policy against hosting politically charged events.

This is the real deal!  Audience members were called on stage.  Real cash and prizes were awarded.  Same music, same sound effects, same games.  Hosted by “the host with the most’ Todd Newton, everyone involved had a great time.  Newton has that smooth, buttery emcee demeanor while simultaneously exuding charm, enthusiasm, and a great sense of humor.
