According to Variety, 'True Dective' star Michelle Monaghan has signed on alongside Adam Sandler in the upcoming Sony comedy 'Pixels'.

Directed by Chris Columbus and produced by Adam Sandler's Happy Madison, the star-studded cast includes Peter Dinklage, Kevin James and Josh Gad. The film is expected to drop sometime in 2016.

The plot line centers around a group of video-game experts who are recruited by the government to prevent popular 80s video-game characters from taking over New York City. The story is based upon Patrick Jean's short film of the same name, which won the Annecy Crystal for Best Short Film at the 2011 Annecy International Animated Film Festival.

Previously seen in box office hits such as the first two installments of the 'Mission Impossible' franchise, 'Made of Honor', and 'Eagle Eye', Michelle Monaghan will appear next alongside James Marsden in the upcoming Nicholas Sparks movie, 'The Best of Me'.
