Variety writes that IRON MAN's Robert Downey, Jr. is in final talks to join Marvel's CAPTAIN AMERICA 3 as billionaire 'Tony Stark'.

Read the original report here.

CAPTAIN AMERICA 3 is based on Marvel's Civil War comic book miniseries and centers on a "feud over the Superhero Registration Act, which forces anyone with superhuman abilities to reveal their identities to the U.S. government and agree to act as a police force for the authorities." Stark is on the government's side, while Captain America's alter-ego Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) believes the Act threatens civil liberties.

Downey, Jr. is already set to reprise his role as Iron Man in THE AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON and THE AVENGERS 3. This new, villain-like role in CAPTAIN AMERICA 3 could potentially influence a fourth (hypothetical) AVENGERS film.

Among Downey, Jr.'s other upcoming projects are a third installment of SHERLOCK HOLMES and THE JUDGE (which just hit theaters).

Anthony and Joe Russo will return as directors for CAPTAIN AMERICA 3 from a script by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely. The movie is aiming for a May 6, 2016 release.
