Richard Belzer to Exit NBC's LAW & ORDER: SVU

TVGuide.com reports that Richard Belzer will be leaving NBC's long-running legal drama LAW & ORDER: SVU after 15 seasons.

The comedian turned actor portrayed Det. John Munch since the series debut. According to a source, he will be popping up in recurring guest appearances on future epissodes. On this week's episode of the show, Munich announced his retirement. A farewell party is expected to be featured on the October 16th episode.

Belzer originated the character on the 1990's Homicide: Life on the Street. He has also appeared as in the same role in cameo episodes of The X-Files,Arrested Development, The Wire, Law & Order, and Law & Order: Trial By Jury.
