The LA Galaxy and forwards Landon Donovan and Robbie Keene face Real Salt Lake and midfielder Kyle Beckerman in a 2014 MLS Cup Western Conference Semifinal match this Saturday, November 1, at 8 p.m. ET on NBCSN. Donovan, retiring after this season, looks to end his career becoming the first player in MLS history to win six MLS Cup titles.
The LA Galaxy finished second in the Western Conference this season and narrowly missed out on winning their fifth Supporters' Shield title (most regular-season points in MLS) after losing to the Seattle Sounders in their final regular season match last Saturday. The Galaxy look to become the first team in league history to win five MLS Cup titles. Real Salt Lake finished third in the Western Conference this season under first-year head coach Jeff Cassar. This will be the second consecutive season that the two teams have met in the Western Conference Semifinals. NBC Sports Group's lead MLS play-by-play announcer John Strong calls the match from Rio Tinto Stadium in Sandy, Utah, and is joined by former Major League Soccer and U.S. Men's National Team midfielder Kyle Martino and host Russ Thaler. Strong on Real Salt Lake vs LA Galaxy: "We really couldn't ask for a better conference semifinal first leg than the matchup between RSL and the Galaxy. These are two teams who play fantastic soccer, feature star players, and have a recent history of dramatic games between them. As Landon Donovan tries to write the storybook ending to his career, MVP candidate Robbie Keane will help try to lead LA towards their third MLS Cup in four years. On the other side, US national team players Kyle Beckerman and Nick Rimando have kept RSL from missing a beat this year, even amongst an offseason coaching change and a major injury to striker Alvaro Sabario. Add in another sellout crowd at Rio Tinto Stadium, and we're in for a real treat Saturday night."Videos
