'Little House on the Prairie' Star Richard Bull Dies at Age 89

Actor Richard Bull, best known for his role as Nels Oleson on Little House on the Prairie, died Monday in Calabasas, Calif., People reports. He was 89 years old.

Melissa Gilbert, his co-star on the series, turned to Twitter today to share her condolences. "This man will be missed," she posted "Goodbye Richard, working with you was such a joy but nearly as joyful as being your friend."

Nels Oleson was the kindly proprietor of Oleson's Mercantile and the long suffering husband of his wife Harriet on the NBC TV series which aired from 1974 to 1983. He also played "Doc" on Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea.

Bull began his stage career at the famous Goodman Theatre in Chicago, Illinois. He left Los Angeles in 1994 with his wife Barbara "Bobbi" Collentine to live in Chicago.
