Is Carl turning out to be Frank Jr. in the Gallagher clan? Will Fiona be able to save her failing marriage? Will Lip be able to figure out a way to stay in school? The Gallaghers are facing some serious obstacles as we begin winding down Season Five of SHAMELESS.

Lip is having major financial trouble at school. His financial advisor suggests maybe taking a semester off, but Lip confesses that if he goes home, he'll never come back. He approaches Kev about rebooting their "ice cream truck" business and selling weed in the dorms. He makes about half of his tuition and pays it in cash. They give him one more week to come up with the rest or he will have to leave school.

Back at home, Vee isn't enjoying her life too much as a bachelorette even if Svetlana is also performing wifely duties on her as well. (I mean, you have to hand it to Svetlana, she's very fair). Despite Fiona's blatant judgment, Vee decides to go on a date from an ex-boyfriend from high school named Eddie Murphy. (Not that one.) When she meets him, she realizes what a sleaze he is and always was and more than ever wants Kev back.

Carl gets a promotion from his dealer boss, G-Dog and has to make a trip across state lines with a big stash. Frank suggests using Chuckie as his unknowing mule. Frank also uses this opportunity to get back at Sammy and calls the cops to arrest Chuckie. Sammy rats out Carl to the cops and they track him down and arrest him as well.

Fiona tries to talk to Gus after her big reveal of her affair with Jimmy, but Gus has decided to join his band on tour. She gives him some space, but Sean tells her to run after him and fight for him. She tries, but Gus really does want space out on the road. Fiona decides to move back into the Gallagher house (Wasn't aware she had moved out) to help Ian.

Poor Ian is having a rough homecoming. He is refusing to take his medication which means he needs constant supervision. And maybe the adolescent with the new boyfriend isn't the best choice as while Debbie is in charge, Ian flushes all his meds. The pharmacy refuses to fill the prescription as the refills are used up. Debbie even tries (and miserably fails) faking a psychotic break to get some prescribed to her. Mickey isn't handling it all that well and decides to drink until he can't feel the pain anymore of helplessly watching Ian suffer. Debbie warns him that many have tried, but you can't drink Gallaghers away. Mickey finally shows up at the end and holds Ian until he can fall asleep. Swoon.

The Lisas even made an appearance last night. Remember? The Lesbians named Lisa who were going to turn the South Side into a gentrified, hip new neighborhood? Haven't seen them in a while, but apparently they're still there.

Even when they're troubled, I'm still mad for Ian and Mickey. I can't imagine being in Mickey's position and apparently, according to Debbie, he's dealing with it in a pretty average manner. Thankfully, Mickey was able to snap out of it and be there for him. I sure hope that support can continue and they can get Ian back on his meds.

Fiona is right back where she started. Even after telling Jimmy to take a hike, Gus went and took one too. With Sean moving away, it seems all of her options are literally leaving town. Has she ever considered just taking some time to focus on her family and life and getting herself together first? Haha, just kidding. I know, she's a Gallagher.

I fear for poor, little Chuckie. Although at this point, being in Juvy may be a better environment than being raised by Sammy. I have a feeling Carl is in some real trouble here and won't be too interested in turning in G-Dog. If so, maybe he's the truest Gallagher of them all.

Lines I Love:

  • Frank - Off to deal drugs on a Saturday morning? Impressive work ethic, son. You do your old man proud.

  • Sammy - In my younger days, I slept with every member of the Guns 'n Roses cover band, Buns n' Hoses.

  • Carl - Don't shoot, I'm white!
