According to Variety, former President George W. Bush recently pulled one over on his former adviser-turned SCANDAL consultant, Judy Smith.

The site reports that Smith, a crisis-management professional who now serves as a consultant for the hit ABC drama series, was the inspiraton for the lead character Olivia Pope, portrayed by Kerry Washington. Following the series fourth season premiere last week, Smith gave a speech at the 2014 Nantucket Project and shared a humorous andecdote involving the former President.

The prank occured during the show's first season in which Olivia Pope was having an affair with the fictional president, Fitzgerald Grant. Because of the TRUE LIFE nature of the show, Smith felt obliged to give Bush a heads up about the dramatized romance, explaining, "I had to quickly call President Bush to help frame the message. To help form the narrative before he heard from anyone else."

She phoned Bush's office to warn him of the upcoming storyline but was told he was not able to speak with her. He did however call back and left a voice mail message in a "steamy" voice declaring: "Love you. Want you. You left me! And by the way, this is the former leader of the free world. Call me."

Nice to know even world leaders have a sense of humor.
