Eliot Ness Miniseries in the Works from Craig Zadan & Neil Meron

Deadline reports that NBC is currently developing an Eliot Ness miniseries from the acclaimed motion picture, television and theater producing team of Craig Zadan and Neil Meron. The duo, who produced last year's Academy Awards, will return for a second time to produce the Oscars telecast airing live on ABC on Sunday, March 2, 2014.

Craig Zadan and Neil Meron, who are currently busy at work on NBC's upcoming live presentation of The Sound Of Music this Thursday, December 5th, will produce 'Nemesis', an eight-hour miniseries about famed Prohibition agent Eliot Ness.

The project, from Sony Pictures TV, will be based on William Bernhardt's book Nemesis: The Final Case Of Eliot Ness. According to the report, the story will follow Ness "in 1935, post-Untouchables, as Cleveland's newly appointed Director of Public Safety. Bodies have started turning up - each one decapitated and dissected with a doctor's skill and a madman's bent. The police are baffled and the population is terrorized over America's first serial killer, the so-called "Torso Killer." Though it's not his turf, Ness is forced to take over the case, but the more energy he pours into the investigation, the more it takes over and threatens to destroy his life."

Benjamin Brand, who is executive producing with Zadan, Meron and Aperture Entertainment's Adam Goldworm, will pen the script.

Zadan and Meron served as executive producers for the 2002 "Best Picture" winner "Chicago," which won Oscars in 6 of the 13 categories in which it was nominated. Their credits also include the features "Footloose" (2011), "Hairspray," and "The Bucket List." Zadan also produced the original "Footloose" (1984).

Their work in television includes the series "SMASH" and such movies as "A Raisin in the Sun" and "Steel Magnolias."

For Broadway, they recently produced the Tony Award winning revivals of "How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying" and "Promises, Promises."

Their work has amassed 73 Emmy nominations; 12 Tony nominations; and seven Grammy nominations.
