It'sThanksgiving on NEW GIRL and they always deliver. Sure, the episode doesn't exactly focus on the holiday so I can't give it the coveted Best Thanksgiving TV Episode ever award, but continuing their stellar season, this half hour was definitely one of it's finest this year.

Schmidt's brilliant plan for this year's Thanksgiving? Bangsgiving. The roommates are going to draw names out of a hat and bring a date to Thanksgiving for that person with the strict intention for them to sleep together. Winston is set up by Jess with Shauna Pearl, the school lunch lady and he is having a hard time wrapping his brain around that. Coach is set up with Pepper by Coach. Pepper is a fellow cadet and has the physique of a body builder and Coach is more than intimidated. Nick, who draws his own name, brings his friend, Tran to keep him company. Cece is set up by Schmidt with Geoff who seems to be caught in traffic. Schmidt is set up by Cece with Lucy, a former fling of Nick's and Nick is none too pleased. And in a sneaky maneuver, Coach sets Jess up with Ryan, the very person she's trying to avoid.

Nick tries to hit on Cece to make Schmidt jealous until Cece realizes that Nick is really scared of getting out there again. Jess puts Ryan off, then seduces him, but he tells her he wants more than just sex. In a lovely heart to heart, Jess and Nick tell each other that it's time for them to try to find new relationships that are meaningful. Coach finally challenges Pepper to arm wrestling and once he beats her, they hook up. Winston gets over his prejudice against the Lunch lady and they hook up. Tran's granddaughter shows up and Nick gets her phone number. When Schmidt realizes Lucy is an anti-semite he is left with Cece whose date never showed up. When Geoff does finally arrive and he is dreamy, Cece literally pushes him out the door so she can spend the evening chatting with Schmidt. Jess heads to Ryan's to apologize and tell him she wants more and she spends the night.

Oh what a blissful episode. I laughed out loud many times. I've made no secret of my dislike of Jess and Nick's breakup, but I will admit, I do like this Ryan guy. He is a good match for Jess and it will be amusing to watch them try and keep their relationship a secret. But Cece and Schmidt were the real stars of this episode. Is Cece relenting or did she really just want an evening with Schmidt? Romantic tanglements aside, he truly is her best friend and by Geoff actually showing up, it did prove that he has her best interests at heart even if they don't include him. Winston is a freak and I love everything about him. The scene on the roof when Schmidt is scolding them for focusing on petty things instead of the big picture was by far my favorite. As they were all talking over each other with their snide comments. That is just brilliant writing right there as that is nearly every conversation I have with friends. Way to knock it out of the park, writing team.

MVP - Coach for his fear and intimidation of his date's physique.

Runner Up - Winston. Oh you adorable little twisted man, you.

Lines I Love:

  • Winston - For whoever picked me, I just want you to know that I have really gotten into feet lately so, do with that what you will. Coach - No one do anything with that.

  • Schmidt - You brought an old, Asian man to my sex party so it WOULDN'T be weird?

  • Schmidt - You dated her 3 years ago for like 2 and half months. Statute is very specific. 1000 showers. After that? No claim.

  • Jess - Are we attracted to each other? Yes. Do I sing Oasis songs to myself and pretend that they were inspired by your love for me? I do.

  • Schmidt - Let us please not repeat the mistakes we made at my 8 nights of Humpukah party.

NEW GIRL does Thanksgiving well. Not in the classic sense, but they always manage to have a great episode this time of year when it happens to be Thanksgiving. So I won't give them credit for contributing to the legacy that is FRIENDS, WKRP or HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER, but I hope they keep going on this streak. Season Four is shaping up to be their best yet.
