The Hollywood Reporter reports exclusively that HAIRSPRAY and ROCK OF AGES helmer Adam Shankman will take on directing duties for DISENCHANTED, a planned sequel to Disney's 2007 hit film, ENCHANTED. According to the report, actress Amy Adams is expected to reprise her role as Giselle. Filming is expected to get underway next summer.

The live-action/animated musical fantasy romantic comedy film was written by Bill Kelly and directed by Kevin Lima. In addition to Adams, the film starred Patrick Dempsey, James Marsden, Timothy Spall, Idina Menzel, Rachel Covey, and Susan Sarandon. The plot focused on Giselle, an archetypal Disney Princess, who is forced from her traditional animated world of Andalasia into the live-action world of New York City where she finds true love.

ENCHANTED featured songs by Alan Menken and grossed over $340 million at the global box office, and $127 million domestically. Disney has been developing a sequel since 2010.

In addition to directing film adaptations of HAIRSPRAY and ROCK OF AGES, Shankman helmed the films Bringing Down the House, The Pacifier and Bedtime Stories.
