Sarah Brightman Talks Lloyd Webber Marriage & More
Internationally celebrated soprano Sarah Brightman opens up about her marriage to world renown composer Andrew Lloyd Webber and reflects upon their genius/muse relationship as part of a new interview in promotion of her ongoing DREAMCHASER world tour.
Brightman states of her initial interest in musical theatre, "Before I knew my ex-husband, I wasn't particularly interested in musical theatre because it had a form and I didn't like that."
Brightman says it was the shows of Lloyd Webber that changed her opinion for the better. "But I saw Jesus Christ Superstar and Evita, and they were interesting pieces, out of the box, like movies onstage," Brightman relates.
"When the audition for Cats came up, even though I'd been making pop records, it felt like something I was attracted to," she says.
Additionally, Brightman adds of her relationship onstage and off with the Lord, "I was a muse for Andrew. It was an interesting time.
As for how the two managed to work so successfully together since their parting, Brightman opines, "We can be at war, but when the beauty of art is revealed, it overrides the personal stuff. If it's good, everyone wants to work on it. That's it."
"And we just got on with it, fine," Brightman concludes.
