First Listen: THIS IS OUR YOUTH's Michael Cera Releases Folk Album TRUE THAT

Michael Cera, star of This is Our Youth on Broadway this fall, released an indie folk album last week on August 8 without much fanfare, but the project, titled "true that", is getting quite a bit of attention despite the actor's under-the-radar sensibilities.

"I would record a lot of the songs in the middle of the night just at home. I never thought anyone would ever listen to them," he told the Associated Press. "It's really nice that people are paying any attention to it because there's a lot of stuff to listen to... I didn't want anyone to to take it seriously or think that I was taking it seriously by it being a big thing."

The album truly began to gain traction when Cera's friend and fellow actor Jonah Hill tweeted a link (band camp link) to Cera's bandcamp page on Wednesday.

He and Hill appeared together in Superbad in 2007. Among Cera's other screen credits are the cult TV comedy Arrested Development, as well as the series Childrens Hospital and the films Juno, Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist, Year One, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, This Is the End and more.

Cera, who sang backup vocals and played mandolin on Weezer's 2010 album, crafted the songs using GarageBand. He humbly described the album as "just an effort" and "honest".

AP describes "true that" as featuring "airy, folky tracks, some just wordless fragments, some more fully fleshed out" -- that, mixed with covers and tracks featuring borrowed sound.
