Weinstein Company Picks Up Justin Kurzel's MACBETH with Michael Fassbender & Marion Cotillard

According to Deadline, The Weinstein Company is nearing a deal to pick up Justin Kurzel's upcoming adaptation of William Shakespeare's MACBETH, starring Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard.

Kurzel's take on the beloved play will take place in the 11th century, and "features the original Shakespearean dialogue, but doing an ambitious job of visually framing Macbeth's plight, as his ambitious wife coaxes him into taking underhanded means to grab power from the reigning king Duncan."

Pre-production on the project is scheduled to kick-off at the end of the year while principal photography will being on location in the UK in early January 2014.

Fassbender is best known for his roles as Lieutenant Archie Hicox in the filmInglourious Basterds (2009), Magneto in the superhero film X-Men: First Class (2011), and the android David in the science fiction filmPrometheus (2012).

His other credits include the fantasy action film 300 (2007); the drama film Fish Tank (2009); the romantic drama film Jane Eyre (2011); thehistorical film A Dangerous Method (2011); the biographical film Hunger (2008) and the drama film Shame (2011), both directed by Steve McQueen. For his role in Shame, he won the Volpi Cup best actor award at the 68th Venice International Film Festival held in August 2011, and was nominated for a Golden Globe Award and a BAFTA.

Cotillard starred in Rob Marshall's big screen adaptation of NINE THE MUSICAL. She has garnered critical acclaim for her roles in films such as La Vie en rose, Rust and Bone, A Very Long Engagement, My Sex Life... or How I Got Into an Argument, Taxi, Furiaand Love Me If You Dare. She has also appeared in such films as Big Fish, A Good Year, Public Enemies, Inception, Midnight in Paris,Contagion and The Dark Knight Rises.

In 2007, Cotillard starred as the French singer Édith Piaf in La Vie en Rose, for which she received critical acclaim and won several awards, including the Academy Award, BAFTA Award, César Award, and the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress.

In 2010, she received a Golden Globe nomination for her performance in the musical Nine and in 2012, she received nominations for the Screen Actors Guild Award, Golden Globe Award, BAFTA Award, and the César Award for her performance in Rust and Bone.
