On Tuesday, June 18th, NewFilmmakers presents its Documentary Series, a Short Film Program, and the new feature BODIES.

Though the number of women that have careers conducting symphony orchestras has increased over the past few decades, it is still rare and considered somewhat unconventional for a woman to be the leader of an orchestra.

Black Box is an experimental short film that uses music and dance to express emotions.

Matthew Towers OPEN WINDOW
'Open Window' is a short video project produced by Matthew Towers and Laura Manzella. It is an experimental dance short, a duet, an exercise in movement on camera in the tradition of the great experimental dance-maker and filmmaker Maya Deren.

Lauren C. Ruth CULTIVATION
Scientists lament the decline of education in a Soviet-era 'academic village' within Siberian forests. Soundtrack based on the 5th Symphony of Dmitri Shostakovich.

Robert Li OBSERVE
Observe is a short film, sonically driven drama about a man, who's obsession with recording the soundtrack to his life is soon to overcome the disability that is stopping him hearing it.

Chris Esper STILL LIFE
Based on a quote by Ira Glass, "Still Life" tells the story about a photography student who struggles with his thoughts about his creativity and talent.

8:15 PM Feature Presentation

Steve Saylor BODIES
A young writer for a newspaper's website becomes curious, then intrigued, and finally obsessed with the strange behavior of the woman in the adjacent apartment. A police photographer who also shows work in galleries, this woman has lately been spying on a seemingly unimportant man for reasons the writer cannot fathom.

The NewFilmmakers NY Series screens atAnthology Film Archives on the Lower East Side at 32 Second Avenue & 2nd Street. Tickets for Winter Screening Series 2013 are only $6 and are good for the whole night's screenings and receptions. They are available at the Anthology Box Office the night of screening.
