According to The Hollywood Reporter, a scheduled New York premiere of Sony's THE INTERVIEW, to be held at Landmark's Sunshine Cinema, has been canceled. The decision was made by Landmark. The announcement follows a recent cancellation of a promotional appearance by the film's stars, Seth Rogen and James Franco.

The film has come up against a slew of controversy following a cyberattack on Sony studios on November 24th. Yesterday, the hackers responsible for the crime released additional internal Sony information and referred to the September 11 attacks on New York City in an email to reporters, which reads: "Soon all the world will see what an awful movie Sony Pictures Entertainment has made. The world will be full of fear. Remember the 11th of September 2001. We recommend you to keep yourself distant from the places at that time. (If your house is nearby, you'd better leave.)"

On Tuesday, the studio offered theater owners who had previously booked the film the option to back out of their commitment. Last night, Carmike Cinemas was among the first to cancel its screenings of the film. In addition, The Department of Homeland Security revealed that it found no EVIDENCE that there was an active plot targeting movie theaters in the United States.

THE INTERVIEW is set to be released on Christmas Day, 2014. In the action-comedy THE INTERVIEW, Dave Skylark (James Franco) and his producer Aaron Rapoport (Seth Rogen) run the popular celebrity tabloid TV show "Skylark Tonight." When they discover that North Korean leader Kim Jong-un is a fan of the show, they land an interview with him in an attempt to legitimize themselves as journalists. As Dave and Aaron prepare to travel to Pyongyang, their plans change when the CIA recruits them, perhaps the two least-qualified men imaginable, to assassinate Kim Jong-un.
