Deadline reports that Johnny Depp's Production Company, Infinitum Nihil, will team with Yellow BiRD Productions and producer Tom Fontana for a scripted TV series which will be based on the works of William Shakespeare

The project will be penned by Randall Fontana and is being described as "a modern take on the plays of The Bard, building on the existing characters and plots from several of his most notable plays."

Depp's Production Company is behind the upcoming Disney film The Lone Ranger, starring Depp as Tonto. The company is also developing a TV drama series on the life of William Wilkerson, founder of The Hollywood Reporter. Their film credits also include Hugo, Dark Shadows and The Rum Diary.

Yellow Bird produced the three feature films based on Stieg Larsson's highly successful 'Girl With the Dragon Tattoo' book series.

Tom Fontana is the creator and executive producer of the BBC America drama Copper, produced by the U.S. division of Canadian producer Cineflix.
