It won't waltz into theaters for another four months, but Disney's live-action BEAUTY AND THE BEAST is already setting records!

According to Variety, Walt Disney Studios announced yesterday that the film's first official trailer has set a new record with 127.6 million views in its first 24 hours. "Fifty Shades Darker" held the record previously with 114 million views, followed by "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" with 112 million.

Disney also reported that the cast's postings on social media played a large role in the record-breaking viewings, accounting for 29 million views on Facebook alone. Star Emma Watson's facebook post of the trailer garnered 27 million views. In addition, within the first half hour of the video's launch, #BeautyAndTheBeast was the leading trend worldwide on Twitter. Disney also reports that the the trailer is currently the top trending video on Youtube (https://www.youtube.com/feed/trending).

Back in May, the film's teaser trailer generated a whopping 91.8 million views, stealing the record away from the teaser trailer for "Star Wars: The Force Awakens," which received 88 million.

The stunning trailer, released on Monday, November 14th, provided fans with a first look at Belle, the Beast, Lumiere, Cogsworth and Mrs. Potts. In addition, the footage included new versions of such iconic scenes as Belle and the Beast's ballroom waltz. "Beauty and the Beast" will be released in U.S. theaters on March 17, 2017.
