ANN ARBOR, MI (November 25, 2013) -The University Musical Society (UMS) presents a fresh January line-up
featuring five innovative performances. Acclaimed performer Rob Drummond opens the second half of the UMS
2013-2014 season with Bullet Catch, a provocative work of theater staged as a notoriously dangerous magic
show (Tuesday-Sunday, January 7-12).

The following week, UMS kicks off Renegade Week, a four-concert celebration by two UMS artists who engage
in creative enterprises full of risk-taking, experimentation, and boundary pushing: Colin Stetson (Wednesday-
Thursday, January 15-16) and the Kronos Quartet (Friday-Saturday, January 17-18). All-access Renegade Week
passes are available and include all four performances plus a free download of the Kronos Quartet's "Under 30"
project for only $99. Order in person or by phone (734.764.2538).

Colin Stetson, bass saxophonist of the indie band Bon Iver, shares his exhilaratingly unique sound and technique
as a soloist (Wednesday-Thursday, January 15-16). The Kronos Quartet performs two different programs that
explore war and politics and that feature several composers with University of Michigan connections: George
Crumb (professor of composition in the 1960s), Michael Daugherty (current professor of composition), and
David T. Little (alumus whose world premiere of Agency will be performed on Saturday) (Friday-Saturday,
January 17-18).

The following weekend, Siberian pianist Denis Matsuev makes a triumphant Ann Arbor return after thrilling
UMS audiences with stunning performances in 2010 and 2012 (Sunday, January 26). Closing out January, five
time Grammy nominee and jazz pianist Fred Hersch performs two different sets at 7:30 and 9:30 pm with his
trio (Thursday, January 30).
