NY Philharmonic's CONTACT! to Continue with 'New Music from Italy,' 5/11

The sixth season of CONTACT!, the New York Philharmonic's new-music series, continues with "New Music from Italy," Monday, May 11, 2015, at 7:30 p.m. at SubCulture, co-presented with 92nd Street Y. The chamber program will include Berio's Diffe?rences for five instruments and tape, conducted by Joshua Gersen, who begins his tenure as Philharmonic Assistant Conductor in September 2015; the U.S. Premiere of Vitturio Montalti's Passacaglia for marimba and cello; the U.S. Premiere of Salvatore Sciarrino's tre duetti con l'eco; and the New York Premiere of Luca Francesconi's Encore Da capo. The performers will include Philharmonic violinist Quan Ge; violists Peter Kenote and Dawn Hannay; cellists Maria Kitsopoulos, Sumire Kudo, and Nathan Vickery; flutists Yoobin Son and Mindy Kaufman; Principal Clarinet Anthony McGill and clarinetist Pascual Marti?nez Forteza; Associate Principal Bassoon Kim Laskowski; percussionist Daniel Druckman; pianist Eric Huebner; and guest harpist June Han.

The 2014-15 season of CONTACT! features World, U.S., and New York Premieres, as well as seminal works by leading composers, in programs that explore the new-music scene from four different countries. CONTACT! will conclude with "New Music from Japan," conducted by Jeffrey Milarsky, at The Metropolitan Museum of Art (June 5, 2015).

Christopher Rouse, who in 2014-15 is completing his three-year term as The Marie-Jose?e Kravis Composer-in-Residence, advises the Philharmonic on the CONTACT! series.
