New York Philharmonic Ensembles to Launch 34th Season This Fall


The 34th season of the New York Philharmonic Ensembles series - chamber concerts showcasing Musicians from the Orchestra performing classical masterpieces and modern compositions in an intimate setting - will begin on Sunday, October 15, 2017, at Merkin Concert Hall.

Shanghai Orchestra Academy and Residency Partnership Set for New York Philharmonic Global Academy Fellowship Program


The Shanghai Orchestra Academy and Residency Partnership continues this summer when students from the Shanghai Orchestra Academy travel to New York City to participate in the New York Philharmonic Global Academy Fellowship Program as the first international Zarin Mehta Fellows, June 11-17, 2016, and the New York Philharmonic travels to Shanghai for its second annual performance residency, July 2-8, 2016.

Tickets originally issued for March 30 will be honored on May 23.

Wallach Artist-in-Residence Yefim Bronfman, originally scheduled for March 30, has been postponed to Friday, May 23, 2014, at 8:00 p.m. at 92nd Street Y at Mr. Bronfman's request, due to an unforeseen scheduling issue. Tickets originally issued for March 30 will be honored on May 23.

Over the weekend Alan Gilbert and the New York Philharmonic performed in Istanbul, Turkey. The Orchestra's first appearance there in 18 years also offered an opportunity to catch some of the colorful capital's local flavor. Then the New York Philharmonic Principal Brass Quintet launched the return to Zurich - home of Credit Suisse, the Orchestra's Global Sponsor - with a free performance. The New York Philharmonic Ensembles, composed of Musicians from the Orchestra, will give its second performance of the 2011-12 season on Sunday, November 20, 2011, at 3:00 p.m. at Merkin Concert Hall, in a program featuring Jonathan Pieslak's Gray Fractures, Janá?ek's Mládí (Youth), and Brahms's Piano Quartet No. 2. The musicians on the program will be flutist Sandra Church; oboist Sherry Sylar; clarinetist Pascual Martinez Forteza; bass clarinetist Amy Zoloto (guest artist); bassoonist Kim Laskowski; horn player R. Allen Spanjer; violinist Lisa Kim; violist Rebecca Young; cellists Eric Bartlett, Maria Kitsopoulos, Sumire Kudo, Ru-Pei Yeh, and Wei Yu; and pianist William Wolfram (guest artist).

Alan Gilbert to Conduct Thurnauer Symphony Orchestra, 2/9


When Alan Gilbert, music director of the New York Philharmonic, mounts the podium at Bergen Performing Arts Center (BergenPAC) in Englewood on Wednesday, February 9 at 7:30 p.m., he will not be leading his acclaimed orchestra. Instead, Mr. Gilbert will lend his time and talent to provide a remarkable opportunity for the young musicians of the JCC Thurnauer School of Music. Mr. Gilbert will conduct the Thurnauer Symphony Orchestra for the School's 20th annual Gift of Music benefit gala, on the BergenPAC stage. Mr. Gilbert will be joined by New York Philharmonic concertmaster Glenn Dicterow, who will be guest soloist with the Orchestra. Rounding out the evening, additional musicians from the New York Philharmonic, including Mr. Gilbert on viola, will perform chamber music by Beethoven, Andres and Mendelssohn.

The New York Philharmonic Ensembles, composed of Musicians from the Orchestra, will begin its 2009-10 season on Sunday, November 15, 2009, at 3:00 p.m. at Merkin Concert Hall featuring Beethoven's Clarinet Trio, Op. 11, Gabaye's Recreation, and Dvo?ák's String Quintet, Op. 77.
