When Erica moves with her mother to "start over" in St. Louis, she finds herself quickly caught up in a violent and popular local pastime-the knockout game. Available now from Carolrhoda Lab, a division of Lerner Publishing Group, Knockout Games is set in modern day St. Louis amidst a disturbing wave of seemingly random attacks on bystanders by a group of urban teenagers in a crew called the TKO club.

Erica is one of the few girls who is down with TKO, in part due to her natural skill with a video camera and her ability to make art out of the attacks. Though unsettled by the violent knockouts from the beginning, Erica is drawn to the camaraderie of the crew, the unpredictability of the game, and the magnetism of Kalvin, the Knockout King himself.

Knockout Games is a brutal, thought-provoking young adult novel of casual violence and its consequences. G. Neri, author of Surf Mules, is gifted with command of the teen voice, but his skill is in the painstaking cultivation of each intricately researched "true story or event." The contemporary setting and themes will enthrall readers. With its powerful, timely subject matter, Knockout Games delivers a narrative punch that will linger in readers' minds long after the final page.
