William Salo highlights the positive, productive aspects of growing older in his philosophical new nonfiction, "Three Ways to View the World" (published by Balboa Press).

As its title suggests, Salo's book is divided into three sections, or phases. Phase one seeks to identify the causes of events that affect human maturation from birth to retirement and examines the reasons why they occur rather than simply what occurs.

Moving on, "Three Ways to View the World" opens a dialogue about the costs and rewards of retirement years, while the final phase explores the universe and the impact that cosmic energy has on human lives.

An excerpt from "Three Ways to View the World":

"Energy of all types, once created, can never be destroyed. It must be utilized in alternate forms or returned to the cosmic inventory of the Universe in one form or another. Humans, when they arrive as infants, absorb an amount of this energy to support the rigors of survival and will continue to develop new energy as they progress on their treks of destiny as adults. This energy must then return to the Universe when the human body expires. This is thought to be in the form of electromagnetic particles that are used and reused, ad infinitum, by the cosmic processes. This concept can be controversial because of alternative, long-term beliefs."

Readers with an inquisitive nature, particularly those reaching retirement age, will find thought-provoking insight in what Salo calls "an archival organization of a selected group of thoughtful writings and an attempt to understand the human role in the universe.
