The Next Step, founded by Lisa Vento Nielsen, is a local Staten Island company focusing on college and career readiness. The Next Step specializes in helping people take their next steps in career or education with informative workshops, seminars and more on College and Career Readiness topics.

The Next Step is excited to announce the first book in the series on Career and College Readiness called The Book on College Readiness: The Prof's Guide to Surviving High School and Kicking Butt in College. This book focuses on real-life lessons and insights from Ms. Vento Nielsen, an educator in higher education since 2003, on how to identify who you are and how to be ready for college.

The book is based off of her College and Career Readiness Seminars offered at local Staten Island high schools. As an educator for the last 13 years as well as an executive and an entrepreneur, Ms. Vento Nielsen has real-world and actionable advice for any student preparing for college (or their parents). "In teaching at the university level since 2003 and having been a college student and student worker since 1994, I have insight and knowledge into how to be ready for college and how to prepare either as an 8th grade graduate or as a Senior in high school (or beyond) for being successful in college. This book is for anyone thinking about going to college or for the parents of the student considering college," says Ms. Vento Nielsen.

The book includes lessons and homework assignments for the student to help them identify who they are, who they want to become and , "always keeping in mind the power of the 'reboot' button for anyone as they start this process of what should be a lifetime of constant learning.", as per Ms. Vento Nielsen. Also included are lessons on writing the perfect Application Essays and how to manage the letter of recommendation process.

The next book in the series will focus on graduating with a job offer and how to succeed in business for the young professional. This book joins Ms. Vento Nielsen's other published work The Prof's Guide to Entrepreneur-ING Using Entrepreneurial Skills to Launch Your Own Business or be the Boss of Your Career.
