Susie Duncan Sexton's MISUNDERSTOOD GARGOYLES & OVERRATED ANGELS Set for Release 10/31
Susie Duncan Sexton, Misunderstood Gargoyles & Overrated Angels
Susie Duncan Sexton's second essay collection of provocative, funny, and heartwarming/heartbreaking observations will be released on October 31. Entitled Misunderstood Gargoyles & Overrated Angels, this volume celebrates the underdogs and the unappreciated among us... and sets its sights on the hypocritical and the hyped among us as well. Through the context of a life fully lived-with an affinity for the arts, an aversion to small-mindedness, and a passion for all creatures great and small-Susie weaves a rich tapestry of punditry and advocacy.
The book's wide-ranging topics include: the joys (and challenges) of attending public schools in the 1950s and 1960s; the plight of animals in the fast-moving disposable culture of today; the conflicting forces of organized religion and faith, then and now; the social impacts of diverse pop culture icons like Little Lulu and Shirley Jones, Russell Crowe and Ricky Gervais; living as a feminist and a vegan in a traditionally politically "red" state; critiques of new film classics like War Horse and Les Miserables; the impact of Blue Bell (Wrangler Jeans) manufacturing on her hometown Columbia City; the sometimes fun and sometimes invasive ways technology has transformed our daily lives; and much more. Duncan Sexton weaves hundreds of local personalities throughout her work, celebrating the joyous diversity that can exist among residents in a small town.
