Stella Henson Griggs Batson walks down memory lane to uncover stories and "Memories of Thompson Orphanage" (published by Xlibris). In an equally moving and informative tone, Batson breaks stereotypes associated with orphanages and tells the real tales of girls and boys whose lives have been changed through the Thompson Orphanage in Charlotte.

Readers get a glimpse into the lives of individuals from the day they went to Thompson Orphanage until this day. Through the vivid lyrical portraits of the orphans' lives, this book helps the public understand orphanages more. Batson observed that so many people feel sorry for children in orphanages, but she argues that those orphans are blessed children because they were given the chance in life that so many others needed but were not as fortunate.

"My book has an important message. The public does not really understand what orphanages do for children and some children may not want to be there," Batson shares. "But as you read on, you can see where they feel so blessed with the opportunities given them. Otherwise, they would have fallen through the cracks of society."

The "Memories of Thompson Orphanage" is keen on showing the world the many good things the shelter has given to its residents - how its people shaped the girls and boys to become the women and men that they are now.
