CHICAGO

"Everyday, someone dies of dangerous shootings," says Shareef Abdul-Salaam. "I feel that this terrible epidemic has gone on far enough." Alarmed by the terrible gun violence plaguing the US, especially in Chicago and having known people who have become victims to these random acts of violence, he wrote "Real Life" (published by Xlibris) as a way of encouraging everyone to put down their guns and find their way to live their life to the fullest.

Phillip Wilson, aka Real, is a young black male who finds himself enduring battle after battle after his father fell victim to senseless gun violence and was shot dead on their front porch. Left to fend for what is left of his broken family, he decides to embark on a perilous journey to venture into selling drugs, thinking that it was the best way of survival in Chicago. At first, the lifestyle change brings him and his family sudden riches, but then Real gets into trouble with the wrong people. He embarks on an epic journey to save his family from crumbling by making a rash decision selling drugs to fend for his family. In doing so, he goes through a series of tumultuous events that will change his life forever.

A story of family and of life's many struggles, "Real Life" holds a mirror to the level of violence apparent in today's society to present an ultimately heartwarming and encouraging tale of how a man is able to push through it all.
