Even though he died at the very young age of 42 almost 40 years ago today, Elvis Presley has been considered the King of Rock and Roll and a rock icon of the highest level. He is one of the most celebrated musicians of the 20th Century and his influence lives on even for most of today's talented musicians and artists. Throughout the years, Elvis' charisma and immense musical talent still captivates the world to this day.

"Competing for Elvis," written by author Savas John, tells a story that revolves around the lives of four very different men who have a mission to resurrect the life of the King of Rock and Roll, Elvis Presley. First there's Jeremy Shrinks, a 50-year-old underachieving store clerk with a beautiful voice that resembles Elvis Presley's, lives in a trailer park in Yukon, Oklahoma. There's also Terrance Best, a wealthy businessman residing in Coral Gables, Florida who lacks Elvis's looks and voice but whose presence portrays Elvis's charisma and persona pervasively. Then there is Henry (Hank) Hunks, an extremely kind and handsome young man who looks exactly like Elvis. Last but not the least, there is Bobby Shrimp, a powerfully built mechanic who looks and sounds somewhat like Elvis. They are all very different men except for one thing: they all love Elvis Presley and his music.

Having met one another years earlier, they have kept in touch with each other despite the differences in their backgrounds and lifestyles. They have made a pact to go to Las Vegas and enter the Elvis impersonation contest.

But winning is not why they continuously compete, but rather it's an ends to a means to find Elvis. Will their persistence finally pays? Will their trip to Las Vegas brings about miraculous changes for them? Will their relentless vigil to find Elvis bond them together and allow them to achieve their ultimate mission?

A great read filled with uplifting and inspirational events that brings positive attitude for fans and non-fans of Elvis alike, "Competing for Elvis" is stock full of memorable and loveable characters that represent a large cross section of Baby Boomers living in the United States. These characters are inspired by real life Elvis impersonators who come to Las Vegas to share their talents and for all things Elvis. This book is definitely a heartfelt tribute to the King of Rock and Roll and his fans.
