NEW DELHI, India

Author Rita S Varma says her new book, "Sunshine Mist and the Rainbow: Life is simple, predictable and fun," (published by Partridge India), was a story that had to be written.

From pre-Partition India to the present, this book tells the saga of septuagenarian Sardar ji, a Sikh refugee, and Shaleen, a young girl with an indomitable spirit who marries a self-absorbed, unhappy man.

Varma draws from Hindu, Muslim and Sikh cultures to create her unique story. She weaves history into her fiction as she describes the upheaval that occurred during the partition of the British Indian Empire. Readers will not only follow Shaleen and Sardar's adventures, but also get a history lesson on India.

An excerpt from "Sunshine Mist and the Rainbow":

"To those who fail to comprehend its influence and impact, cannot be touched by the immensity, purity and enormity of the feat. They may call it a weak moment. How off the mark they are they know not, it's a moment so strong so sublime yet so sensual. When two people feel the same at the same time, it's the only real moment the only aesthetic part of their lives."
