TURNERS FALLS, Mass., May 11, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ Center for Responsive Schools, developer of the Responsive Classroom approach to teaching, has published two new books: The Power of Our Words for Middle School and Middle School Motivators! These are the first books published by Responsive Classroom that are written specifically for middle school educators.

"Responsive Classroom use by elementary teachers has shown that this approach is associated with student gains in academic, social, and emotional skills," says Dr. Lora Hodges, executive director at Center for Responsive Schools. "With these books, we can continue to ensure that students make such gains after they leave elementary school and enter the next critical stage of their school careers."

The Power of Our Words for Middle School shows how educators can use their words and tone to more fully engage their students and support students' positive development as young adults. Teacher language is essential for helping students build positive identities, expanding students' thinking, building trust between educators and students, promoting positive peer-to-peer relationships, and influencing students to use language skillfully themselves.

Middle School Motivators! features 22 interactive learning structures that will encourage students to do their best learning, stay fully engaged, and work with one another in dynamic, purposeful, and respectful ways. These easy-to-use activities give students opportunities to move around and interact with their peers while allowing educators to maintain order and purposefulness in their classrooms. Each learning structure helps educators quickly organize their students into groups or pairs to work on a specific learning goal or project.

The Power of Our Words for Middle School and Middle School Motivators! are both priced at $22 and can be purchased from Responsive Classroom: https://www.responsiveclassroom.org/store/

In addition to publishing middle school books, Center for Responsive Schools is also offering a brand new four-day course for middle school, the Responsive Classroom Course for Middle School Educators. The course will teach educators to use core Responsive Classroom practices to engage students academically, build positive community, manage the classroom effectively, and create a developmentally appropriate learning environment. The course will be offered in 12 locations throughout the U.S. this summer, including New York, NY; Chicago, IL; Minneapolis, MN; and San Francisco, CA.

ABOUT RESPONSIVE CLASSROOM
The Responsive Classroom approach to education was developed over 30 years ago by public school educators who envisioned a way of teaching that would bring together academic and social learning throughout the school day. It has been recognized by the Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning (CASEL) as "one of the most well-designed, evidence-based social and emotional learning programs." Center for Responsive Schools (CRS) offers Responsive Classroom on-site consulting services to schools and districts; workshops for educators in locations around the country and internationally; and a wide collection of books, videos, and other resources for teachers and administrators. Each year, CRS provides training for more than 10,000 teachers and administrators from across the U.S., the District of Columbia, and the international school community.
