Recorded Books, Inc. is the audio publisher of this year's Newbery and Caldecott Medal winners, announced Jan. 11 by the American Library Association (ALA) during the presentation of the 2016 Youth Media Award winners at ALA's Midwinter Meeting & Exhibits in Boston.

Last Stop on Market Street by Matt de la Peña (audio narrated by Lizan Mitchell) is the 2016 Newbery Medal winner. This energetic ride through a bustling city highlights the wonderful perspective only a grandparent and grandchild can share. The John Newbery Medal is awarded for the most outstanding contribution to children's literature. Recorded Books, Inc. was also the audio publisher of last year's Newbery winner: The Crossover by Kwame Alexander.

Finding Winnie: The True Story of the World's Most Famous Bear by Lindsay Mattick is the winner of this year's Caldecott Medal. Before Winnie-the-Pooh, there was a real bear named Winnie, and this is the true story of that remarkable bear. The Randolph Caldecott Medal is awarded for the most distinguished American picture book for children.

"We pride ourselves on offering the very best in children's and young adult content on audio," said Troy Juliar, chief content officer of Recorded Books, Inc. "It's tremendously rewarding for our titles to receive two of the most distinguished awards in children's literature."

Each year the ALA honors books, videos, and other outstanding materials for children and teens. Recognized worldwide for the high quality they represent, ALA awards guide parents, educators, librarians and others in selecting the best materials for youth. Selected by judging committees of librarians and other children's experts, the awards encourage original and creative work.
