Alcalde, N.M.

Author Jessie L. Emerson presents readers with low-tech, sensible and accessible remedies for people who wish to take responsibility for their health and well-being in the new book "Medicine from the Kitchen: Safe and Simple Remedies from the Kitchen for First Aid and Minor Ailments" (published by AuthorHouse).

"People are tired of waiting hours in an emergency room," Emerson says. "I want to empower people with knowledge that can prevent incidents and help them remain calm during a crisis."

"Medicine from the Kitchen" is a quick read that contains what Emerson says are safe and simple remedies for first aid and minor ailments. Emerson calls the remedies contained in her book her "private collection" and "tried and true." A practicing registered nurse since 1965 and a certified clinical herbalist since 1989, Emerson assures her readers that the natural solutions contained in her book can be accomplished in anyone's kitchen.

"This little booklet can save lives and prevent suffering," Emerson says. "Knowledge prevents panic and promotes calm during a crisis. It is my belief that being prepared, awake and aware is your best insurance."
