When Rachel leaves her home and family to travel the world on her own, she quickly learns she must make use of the skills her village taught her to fend off the wild and old familial foes who converge to battle against her.

"One night as I was going to sleep the idea for this book formed in my mind," author Mona Nelson explains. This dream-like inspiration spurred Nelson to write "Rachel's Journey" (published by WestBow Press).

"Rachel's Journey" is ultimately about a young girl who must find and fight for her own future. Nelson's goal was to portray a strong female protagonist who not only can stand up for herself but also help a country enduring the plight of an evil patriarch.

While not immediately explicit, there are strong undertones of Christianity throughout Rachel's story. Nelson hopes her tale of action and adventure coupled with themes revolving around faith in God will inspire readers to seek a stronger relationship with Christ.
