Debut author and photographer Peter Johal reveals that the "Anandpur Chronicles: Volume 1" (published by Trafford Publishing) was initially started as a photographic project. His journeys to India in 2003, and again in 2005, were very spiritual in nature and were incredibly inspiring that he thought he ought to share them. Then his fascination and eventual research into Sikhism led him to write the first in a series of books about this unique religion.

From the outside, Johal notes that, Sikhism and the Sikh population, has been diluted into a pool along other religions that come from the same geographical region. Sikhism, in fact, is quite unique in its own right. Religion, culture and more have features that are shared with none. Equality and humanity are some of these features that separate this particular faith and protecting these beliefs have had turbulent times in history. Anandpur was an integral part of this protection of beliefs.

"Anandpur Chronicles: Volume 1" is the story of the ninth and tenh teachers of Sikhism, with the events that occurred with them, mostly in Anandpur. These historical events led to a transformation in the culture and identity of the Sikh population.

"This book's ambition is to start having a look at Sikhism, what it has gone through in history, which separates them as a unique identity in today's society," Johal says. "My ambition is for the readers to understand that Sikhism survived brutal conditions. This where the history behind the Sikh Turban and the 5 symbolic K's of Sikhism was developed, promoting their unique identity."

About the Author
While in India, picking up historical books of Sikhism became Peter Johal's hobby. After collecting research materials, his study into Sikh history began. After numerous months, Johal went back for more sociological studies, still trying to find a way to uniquely describe Sikh plight, history and identity. It all came together when he dug deeper into symbolism; Sikhism has the 5k's, to symbolically show their identity, this started with Gobind Singh, in Anandpur. Combining history into this, Johal continues to identify their uniqueness.
