SAINT PAUL, Minn.

"I came to know (Alexander) Pushkin by reading Leo Tolstoy's Anna Karenina," said author M.A. Duvernet. "Tolstoy paid a subtle tribute to Pushkin and it resonated with me." Inspired by an
overwhelming desire to write and to rediscover a lost part of herself, she writes her very first novel in "Pushkin's Ode to Liberty" (published by Xlibris) where she explores the meaning of Liberty as she traces the life of Alexander Pushkin.

Considered by many as Russia's greatest poet, Pushkin is to Russia what William Shakespeare is to the English. He lived to the age of 37 when he was shot in a duel to defend his wife's honor. During his lifetime, he wrote about love, liberty and freedom, while also having to deal with being exiled and the constraints of censorship and the heavy oppression of autocracy and religion.

In "Pushkin's Ode to Liberty," DuVernet takes readers deep into the details of Pushkin's life. She tells a story that is crafted using Pushkin's poems and letters with incidents that prove to have shaped his life in interesting ways. It actually calls out the person identified as having written the anonymous letter that led to Pushkin's actions regarding the duel that ended his life and gave birth to a legend.

"I think that it will appeal to everyone who understands the value of liberty for the people who protect it and to those who want to realize it for themselves," says DuVernet. Her book touches on a number of topics such as religion, atheism, chivalry, honor, justice and liberty which, based on current events, are still relevant to this day.
