In his many experiences traveling and living in many countries, Saibal Gupta realized that humanity is similar over the world with minor variations in their efforts, aspirations, love and sorrow that makes it more attractive. This realization inspired him in writing "On the Seashore" (published by Partridge India), a novel that centers on women of India in a rapidly changing society in contact with a changing world like never before while still holding on to their traditions.

Published in April of 2014, this book tells the story of Rupa, a lonely single mother who returned to the United States without support or jobs and, through her struggles, grows to mature womanhood. The stories develop around her personality amid a bevy of female characters and a few male characters, forming a bouquet of feminine beauty and determination. In the end, Rupa gets back her life and love on her own terms.

"In today's world, people mingle with great diversity of wealth, education, religion, social mores and individual ideals and produce divergence, divisions which are sometimes hostile, friendly, tolerant, loving, philosophies clash and merge and in the end humanity in this world are a single colorful, intensely intelligent single entity. That has been my experience and this one world is pictured in the book," Gupta says.

"On the Seashore" shares a story that reflects the importance of unity in diversity through love and sorrow but retaining one's individuality.
