P.A. Cathey's new book, "Shorties: Poetry, Short Stories, and My Unapologetic Thoughts" (published by Lulu), is a collection of short stories, poetry and musings that offer the author's thoughts on love and everyday life.

With the theme of exploring relationships to self, pets and others, Cathey's collection presents expressions of everyday life. The short stories illustrate trials of diverse characters, featuring a war veteran persistently visited by the grim reaper, an alternate version of history and the story of a head that has been separated from its body. Scattered between these stories are random reflections and poetry. Poetry topics include the perfect hug, manhood, simple pleasures and death.

"Relationships are an integral part of everyone's life," Cathey says. "My stories may or may not be based on my personal experiences yet somewhere out there, there is someone who can relate to them."
