ROCHESTER, N.Y. - Author Jenny La Sala has dedicated her life to veteran advocacy and spreading awareness about the physical and mental struggles soldiers face. Two of her previous nonfiction books, "Comes A Soldier's Whisper" and "Vietnam and Beyond," present World War II and the Vietnam War from the perspectives of the soldiers who fought in them.

La Sala now brings her cause to young readers and the children of military parents with the publication of her new book, "When Daddy Comes Home" (published by Trafford Publishing).

When Gia's dad comes home from work, he picks her up, swings her around and calls her his little princess. But when he goes off to serve in the U.S. military overseas, Gia doesn't get to see her daddy as often as she'd like. She talks to him on the Internet and sends him care packages, but it's just not the same.

Things don't exactly get easier when Gia's dad does return home. While overseas, he lost one leg and his ability to hear, but Gia loves him just the same. Now she must find new ways to show her dad how much she loves him and help him adapt to these changes in his life.

La Sala's father was a decorated 101st Airborne paratrooper from WWII and her brother served in the Gulf War. Additionally, she was married to a Vietnam veteran, from whom she learned more about post-traumatic stress disorder and co-wrote "Vietnam and Beyond" with. She hopes "When Daddy Comes Home" will show children that with love, compassion and understanding, everything will be okay.
