SEYMOUR, Conn.

According to a study released in 2013 by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, food allergies among children increased approximately 50 percent between 1997 and 2011. Faced with her daughter's food allergy diagnosis several years ago, author Tarra Kiamos Andrews is on a mission to increase food allergy awareness.

The new book, "No Peanuts for Santa" (published by AuthorHouse) arose out of Andrews' desire to help children with food allergies feel included. Andrews' daughter, Olivia, takes center stage in this eye-opening children's book.

On Christmas Eve, Olivia's mother shares a special secret with her: just like Olivia, Santa has food allergies. Together with her little brother, Logan, Olivia is determined to make nut-free cookies for Santa. But, as she waits for Santa's imminent arrival, Olivia can't help wondering whether Santa's reindeer will like the nut-free cookies. Olivia gets her answer when she wakes up to a charming letter from Santa on Christmas morning.

"Children with food allergies should not feel left out or excluded from activities and events," Andrews says. "They are strong and can accomplish anything, just like Santa! What a terrific role model for children with food allergies!"

A cure for food allergies is at the top of Andrews' Christmas wish list.
