Texas

The historic communities of Moro and nearby Bluff Creek in West Central Texas which took Mother Nature hundreds of thousands of years to form, was about to change as the tumultuous aftermath of America's Civil War prompted Anglo settlers from the losing side to flee in droves all seeking relief from their circumstances. Stories reaching those in exodus of the conditions available at Moro provided the impetus for a quick settlement and displacement of its former occupants. Change was already well under way when author Larry Webb arrived into this Moro culture and entered life with young struggling Depression era parents.

"FROM MORO TO BLUFF CREEK" introduces readers to the utopian yet real community of Moro Texas which, according to the author grows from a population of zero in 1865 to 350 individuals by 1920 while slowly morphing into oblivion by the 1970s. Author Larry Webb, a resident of the said community analyzes his life choices among family and culture while observing the factors which produced this rise and fall of a unique community.

In this melting pot of family and neighbors, Larry Webb grew up and was drafted into the US Army, received an advanced engineering degree, farmed and ranched, designed infrastructure as a professional engineer, became a firefighter and medic, flew planes, played the piano, practiced archaeology, fought the proposed location of a 345 KV transmission line, and successfully raised a family all the while observing from within the once utopian community slowly morph into oblivion. He analyzes his choices in life among circumstances. Was it free choice or simply a reaction to the witches' brew served, or was it a horse that suddenly appeared and must be ridden?

"FROM MORO TO BLUFF CREEK" vividly shares with readers the historical changes that took place in Moro, Texas as witnessed by the authors' ancestors and others like him. This true account represents a microcosm of America's westward migration following the Civil War.
