'Midbar II' Tells the Story of Bathsheba

The character of Bathsheba in the Bible is a truly intriguing one, for not only was she known as the mother of King Solomon the Wise, the circumstances of her marriage to King David were controversial at best. And the many trials and tribulations in her life would have left a lesser woman reeling in self pity. In "Midbar II" author Lynny Harris has written an engrossing story that captures the essence of this truly remarkable woman.

This story depicts the tumultuous life of Bathsheba. The story shows how at the tender age of eight years old, she witnessed the brutal death of an adulterous woman at the hands of an enraged mob. Naïve and impressionable, this image of violence stays with her and affects her perception of life. As the granddaughter of an influential man named Ahithophel, Bathsheba grows up in a loving home, until she loses her mother and her grandmother at a young age. Upon turning 15, she is married without her father's knowledge, to a widowed man named Uriah. The marriage is a loveless and abusive one. After years of abuse, Bathsheba goes to Jerusalem for the procession of the Ark, which King David has brought to the city. There, she meets a handsome dancer from the procession. The attraction was mutual and yet they neither could fully act upon it.

Bathsheba's life soon changes when she is summoned to the royal palace; there she once again meets the handsome dancer who reveals himself to be the great King David. They soon start a secret relationship that culminates in Bathsheba becoming pregnant. Knowing full well the danger of Bathsheba being accused as an adulterous wife, David initiates a plan that ends with the death of Uriah in battle. After her husband's death, King David takes Bathsheba as a wife. Bathsheba soon moves into the palace not knowing the many hardships and obstacles that await her in those hallowed halls.

"Midbar II" is written with all the clarity and eloquence of a historical romance and still manages to capture the essence of Bathsheba. A woman gifted with great beauty and strength of spirit.

About the Author

Lynny Harris was born and raised in a small, close-knit community in western Wisconsin. She wrote as a reporter for The Indianhead Star under the pseudonym Lynny, her nickname. Her background in having done several investigative stories was very helpful in the years of research that she did for Midbar. The author had an article in Countryside Magazine. She continued to write essays and did research for a biography for a missionary to Africa. Her credentials for writing this particular book stem from her discovery that her father was not her biological father. In embracing her new family, she began to better understand her family of origin. Yet nothing thoroughly explained the incredible, close relationship she had with the father who raised her with such love. It is with love for their mother that Shane, Nik, and Anne want to share this dream that their mother had to get Midbar published.
