In Max Heeb's new medical thriller novel "Surgical Imposter" (published by AuthorHouse), a young man masquerading as a surgeon must brave exposure, threats on his life and his own irrepressible impulses to survive.

With the help of his mentor, registered nurse Jason Childs successfully masquerades as Jason Stewart, M.D. Although he is a skilled surgeon, though not certified by any of the oversight organizations that police American medicine, Jason is constantly at risk for exposure. When he is unable to control his own desires, he quickly falls into a cycle of violence and betrayal culminating in three attempts on his life and the murder of a woman. With little other help available, Jason turns to God.

"After a long pause in their relationship, Julia arranged a rendezvous at their previous love nest at the Peabody Hotel in Memphis, Tennessee. When Jason walked around the corner of the room, "Oh my God." Julia was slumped over in a chair, her head to one side, with a hole in the middle of her forehead. The back of the chair was soaked with her blood and brains, like scrambled eggs with ketchup."

Heeb draws on a lifetime of legitimate medical practice to give his novel authenticity, an is quick to reassure his readers that it is impossible for an imposter to qualify for certification by the American Board of Surgery or fellowship in the American College of Surgeons.

Max Heeb M.D., F.A.C.S., has practiced surgery in Sikeston, Missouri for 50 years. The biography "Max The Knife" was published in 2005. As a former governor of the American College of Surgeons and member of the credentials committee, he is aware of the importance of certification by the American Board of Surgery and fellowship in the American College of Surgeons.

Heeb lives with his wife, Marianna, in Sikeston, Missouri and Cape Coral, Florida. They have three children: Christie, Mark and Scott, and three grandchildren: Elizabeth, Nicholas and Dominic.
