Having always loved mysteries, author Mary Schaller wants to bring out the deadly results of drugs, infidelity, distrust and jealousy in her new book. She reveals a thrilling story of murder, romance and suspense in "Deadly Distrust" (published by Xlibris). This is her debut novel.

Two nursing students take an apartment in a Victorian house in San Francisco. One of these women gets into some steamy affairs with professional men and drugs. Sadly, she ends up dead. Poison was the cause of death, and it could have been an accident or murder. The poison comes from a mushroom called Amanita ocreata. Several suspects could have profited by her death. The big question is who knew about the poison and who also has a motive. The police find the case complicated by the world of transvestites, gays, drugs and another death.

An excerpt from the book:
Gary was right on her heels. His sweaty hand caught her by the throat and spun her around. She tried to scream, but his thumb on her trachea blocked the sound. Backing her into a corner he applied more pressure on her tender neck. Her pink face turned red before him. At first stunned by his actions, she didn't fight. Seconds passed like hours. The realization hit her like an earthquake, he wasn't being playful.

A fast-paced, gripping read, this book is filled with sarcastic irony, sizzling romance and chuckling humor. Set in San Francisco, the story takes readers to its parks and beaches and to the headlands of Marin County with its crashing surf and screaming seagulls.
