A young beaver overcomes bullies, relies on new friends, overcomes perils and works to reunite and save his community in Mark Joseph Rogers' debut children's book, "A Beaver's Tale" (published by Archway Publishing).

Rogers formulated the idea of writing a book while listening to a children's charity fundraising program on the radio. "I thought about what I could do to help out, so writing this book gave me the opportunity to not only provide a story for children, but also allowed me to have funds to donate," he says, adding that he is donating a portion of his proceeds from "A Beaver's Tale" to children's charities.

The story follows Chip, who has been picked on by bullies and gang members, as he tries to unite his community. His grandpa sets Chip on the path for discovering his purpose, and Lila, Chip's girlfriend, encourages him and believes in what he is doing.

"(The book) touches on bullies, learning to believe in yourself, trusting and depending on others, as well as not holding grudges... Being a good leader, and treating others equally and with respect," Rogers says, adding that he hopes readers take away a "good feeling about overcoming obstacles, not giving in to peer pressure, trusting others, and believing in yourself."
