MARRIAGE AND LIFE AFTER DEATH is Released

Anthony Onyekwe saw the humiliation and discrimination of being in a childless marriage and the emotional and psychological pains suffered by childless men and women, especially in Africa, along with the extortion that childless couples are exposed to at the hands of native doctors, false prophets and Pentecostal healers, claiming to posses the power to solve their problems. All of this motivated him to pen "Marriage and Life after Death" (published by Xlibris UK), to help those experiencing difficulty in harmonizing their Christian faith with beliefs that having offspring is essential to become an ancestor - a state of sainthood as understood by Africans.

According to Onyekwe, the emphasis on family, marriage and offspring suggests that there is a kind of an unwritten ancestral law that imposes on every male the duty of begetting a son. The reason is because the core of African 'soteriology' is centered on offspring. The predicament of childless couples, therefore, stems from the desire for immortality and salvation that culminates in the admission of the dead into the ancestral world. This quest for salvation and immortality constitute social, emotional, psychological and spiritual problems for childless couples.

He seeks to free his readers from this socio-cultural burden by instilling in them the idea that marriage is an institution created by God. It is a vocation and not a duty. The primary good of marriage is the good of spouses, procreation and education of children. A childless marriage is a valid marriage since offspring is not the essence of marriage. However, having offspring is not a criterion for eternal life, as Africans believe, but an ontological reminder of that promise-"eternal communion with God"-which God made to human race.

"Marriage and Life after Death" shows readers that a childless marriage is a valid marriage and faithfulness to connubial solidarity is a path to holiness and the destiny of the human person.
