SANTA BARBARA, Calif., July 9, 2014 /PRNewswire-iReach/ The crowdfunding campaign for "Luminous Sea", the underwater photography book from professional underwater photographer Richard Salas, in full effect on the popular crowdfunding platform Indiegogo. Backers have currently pledged over $5,200 and are showing support for the compendium of beautiful underwater photographs. The $45,000 funding goal of the campaign was set in order to produce the final book in the Sea of Light trilogy as well as re-print the first book in the trilogy, "Sea of Light".

Each book in the Sea of Light trilogy features photographs taken in different locales along the Pacific coast. The two previous books in the Sea of Light trilogy focused on the more temperate waters of the Pacific Ocean. The debut book in the trilogy, "Sea of Light", was produced in 2009 and featured images taken near California's Channel Islands. "Blue Visions", produced in 2012, is the second book in the trilogy and showcases the marine life along the Islands of Mexico down to the Equator. "Luminous Sea" is the third and final book in the trilogy and shifts focus to the chilly waters off the northern Pacific coasts, from Washington to Alaska.

"The Pacific Northwest is known for its dense forests, beautiful landscapes, and exotic wildlife," says Salas. "Many people are so caught up in admiring the mountains and rivers that they don't realize there's an equally beautiful world right off the coast."

The 12"x12" coffee table book features over 150 pages of high-resolution underwater photographs of the marine life and habitats of the Pacific Ocean along the coasts of the Pacific Northwest, specifically Canada and Alaska. Readers will see high-quality, up-close images of Giant Pacific Octopuses, Wolf Eels and Decorated Warbonnets as they thrive in their natural habitats.

"Luminous Sea" serves a much larger purpose than simply providing readers with jaw-dropping images, however. Fifty percent of the future profits from "Luminous Sea" will be donated to The Ocean Foundation, an organization that works with donors to grow the financial resources available for marine conservation.

"When you see these animals in their natural habitats, you are moved to do anything to save them," says Salas. "That's why we decided to donate fifty percent of our future profits to The Ocean Foundation. Keeping these animals in their homes so our children can enjoy them is of paramount importance."

A professional photographer for over 35 years, Salas has been utilizing digital photography since its inception nearly 20 years ago. Combining his advertorial photography experience, diving expertise and marine life knowledge, Salas provides readers with once-in-a-lifetime shots that capture the personalities of each individual animal.
