Learning Sciences International, the nation's leading provider of professional development and performance management solutions in education, is entering the publishing world this summer. To answer the call for written professional development material focused on specific instructional strategies that move students toward increased rigor, the company will launch its new publishing division with a 10-book series, the Marzano Center Essentials for Achieving Rigor. The first volume of the series will be available in June 2014, with the remaining nine titles following throughout the summer.

A team of experts, including renowned education authority Robert J. Marzano, developed this series of research-based instructional guides to help teachers build expertise on essential strategies that move students toward the higher-order thinking skills required by college and career readiness standards.

"Educators are looking for practical ways to effectively teach according to standards, whether they're CCSS, state, or even district standards," said Robert Clouse, President of the Learning Sciences publishing division. "Each of these books provides explicit techniques to implement and then monitor a critical instructional strategy aligned with anchor standards, along with recommendations for adapting lessons to ensure that all students understand the content. With day-to-day examples to use as models for application in the classroom, as well as lists of common mistakes to avoid, this series is a must-have for schools and districts striving to align instruction to meet the challenges of increasingly rigorous academic standards."

The publishing division offers a wide array of pedagogical titles, from practical instructional guides for teachers to in-depth publications on the latest educational research for school and district leaders. Additional authors include notable international researchers Margarita Calderón and Dylan Wiliam, as well as leading educational voices David Sousa, William Bender, Beverly Carbaugh, Michael Toth, Amber Rutherford, and Deana Senn. New titles from other globally recognized researchers will be announced in coming months. Publications will initially be released in print, followed immediately by e-books. Many will also become available in formats including specialized software and online courses to meet the varied needs of a diverse community of educators.

Attendees of the company's annual international conference, Building Expertise 2014, will be among the first to see the Marzano Center Essentials for Achieving Rigor series. The introductory book, Identifying Critical Content: Classroom Strategies to Help Students Know What is Important, will be available for purchase at the conference, which takes place in Orlando, Florida, June 18-20, 2014.
