Author LaVera Edick's memoir, history and family legacy, "Four Score and More" (published by Trafford Publishing) reads like a novel as it records her life and her ancestors who set the stage for her journey, as well as the events over the past century that made her into the person she is today.

It is the true story of how she grew up on a dry land farm in Nebraska during the Great Depression and the Great Dust Bowl; she recounts the onset of the Second World War and how her father, who was raised as a Quaker, was taught that God has a plan for everyone and that He helps those who help themselves. Edick learned to live by those words as the years go by.

She tells heartwarming tales and tear-jerking stories of hard times when money was scarce but love and family togetherness was abundant. She married when she was 17 years old during the war, spent the next decade running a truck line and selling salt to ranchers in the Nebraska Sand Hills. Decades later, she was finally able to pursue her interest in art and genealogical research, a passion that resulted in her opus.

Many of Edick's paintings are found throughout the book, as well as photos taken nearly a century ago by her mother, using a Brownie Kodak camera.
