In his new war memoir, "Not Your Ordinary Vietnam War Stories" (published by AuthorHouse), Jim Pepper gives readers a humorous and self-effacing look into what it was like fighting in the war. He hopes to present a bigger picture of the situation as he experienced it, showing readers how history impacts the future.

During the Vietnam War, Pepper quickly rose through the ranks from a greenhorn lieutenant to captain. His memories in "Not Your Ordinary Vietnam War Stories" delve into his experiences in and out of six different Southeast Asian countries, where his take-charge attitude often earned him missions for special assignments. Now, over 40 years later, Pepper looks back at his time, thankful for the people he served with and the people he has met because of his service in the Vietnam War.

An excerpt from "Not Your Ordinary Vietnam War Stories":

"The first thing we noticed was an ear splitting 'CRACK'! Then the bird's engine began racing like your car engine races if you step on the accelerator while the car is in neutral. No one needed lessons in helicopter flight dynamics to know the loud 'CRACK' noise was NOT good! The out-of-control racing engine another certain indicator of 'real trouble'."

Pepper believes readers today will both relate to and learn from his recollections of the Vietnam War. "Our culture, our government, our military, even our basic ways of living life have all dramatically changed since the Vietnam War," he explains. "A lot, a whole lot, of the negatives impacting what is currently wrong with America, has its roots in the era described in my book. As a nation, we are collectively bearing the burden of fruit we grew from those roots."
